Our Roots:
At the 2009 Special Town Meeting, Norwell voters approved $50,000 of Community Preservation Act funds to start a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm in town.
Norwell Farms, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization. Norwell Farms, Inc. was incorporated in February 2010 and its Board of Directors, comprised of Norwell residents, will guide farm activities and lead fund raising efforts for the organization.
Norwell Farms will run its farm operations at the Jacobs Farm Homestead located at 4 Jacobs Lane. The house, Norwell’s signature historic property, was built in 1726.
Our Mission:
The mission of Norwell Farms is to operate a farm using sustainable methods at the historic Jacobs farmstead. We are committed to providing fresh, seasonal food to our CSA members and to educating the community at large about the benefits of local, sustainable agriculture.
We seek to benefit the community by:
- Providing fresh, seasonal food to our CSA members beginning in the end of June 2010.
- Offering educational programs to the public about sustainable agriculture and local food production.
- Bringing the community together through events and volunteer opportunities at the farm.
- Providing a portion of the food grown at Norwell Farms to residents in need through the Norwell Food Pantry.
Our Vision:
Our vision is to reconnect the Norwell Community to a local, working farm while preserving the beauty and open space of Jacobs Farmstead. Norwell residents purchase locally grown food and participate in farm events, volunteer opportunities and educational programs.
We seek to foster a community in town that nurtures it’s soil, plants and animals, enjoys the benefits of local food production and learns about sustainable agriculture.
